Touch ID has been working on my MacBook Pro for months and I love it. Then all of a sudden last week I have notice that when my screen goes to sleep and I wake it backup to login, I no longer get prompted to use the Touch ID. The same happens when I close the lid and the computer goes to sleep and then I open the lid. In both cases my account icon is showing on the screen without a password field below it. I assume this is because I should be getting a prompted to use the Touch ID. When this happens, I have to click Switch User and click on my account that is already logged in to get a password prompt.
I have removed all my fingerprints in the Touch ID control panel and turn all the Touch ID services off then on again. None of this has resolved the issue.

Follow these steps. Try using Touch ID after each step:
- Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS.
- Make sure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.* For the Home button, use a clean, lint-free cloth to wipe off any dirt or debris.
- Your finger should cover the Home button completely, touching the surrounding metal ring. While Touch ID is scanning, you shouldn't tap too quickly or move your finger around.
- If you're using a case or screen protector, make sure it doesn't cover the Home button or the surrounding ring.
- Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and make sure that iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on, and that you've enrolled one or more fingerprints.
- Try enrolling a different finger.
